GERMAN ABSTRACT: Qualit‰t von Gesundheitsinformationen im World Wide Web und die Frage einer Qualit‰tsbeurteilung und Qualit‰tssicherung sind neue Herausforderungen f¸r Public Health. Das Ziel dieses Artikel ist es, die vorhandene empirische Evidenz hinsichtlich Qualit‰t von Internetinformationen und Auswirkungen auf die ˆffentliche Gesundheit anhand dreier unterschiedlicher systematischer ‹bersichtsarbeiten kritisch zu bewerten und im zweiten Teil die aus Sicht des Autors notwendigen Konsequenzen aus einer Public-health- Perspektive zu diskutieren. Diese beinhalten Verbraucheraufkl‰rung und technische Innovationen (z.B. MedCIRCLE), um Konsumenten auf vertrauensw¸rdige Gesundheitsinformationen im World Wide Web zu f¸hren.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The quality of health information on the World Wide Web and the question of quality evaluation and assurance are emerging challenges for public health.The aim of this article is to critically appraise the available evidence from three systematic reviews regarding quality of health information on the web and its impact on public health and, in the second part of the article, to discuss necessary consequences from a public health perspective.These include consumer education and technological innovations (e.g. MedCIRCLE) to guide consumers to trustworthy health information on the web.
